Oral Diseases and Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome

From the Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome Newsletter, Summer 2003

Dr. Glogauer initiated a study in 2002 to look at the links between oral diseases and SDS. He has some exciting and surprising results which will become all the more important now that the gene has been identified. However, only 10% of SDS families responded to his initial request for questionnaire completion. In order to greatly improve the impact of this work and to further his ability to make significant conclusions regarding his findings he requires 20-25 additional families to participate. Please contact him by e-mail (michael.glogauer@utoronto.ca) or through Nancy Ruick at SDSI for a new set of questionnaires.

This is a simple and straightforward study which requires about 30 minutes of your time to answer some brief questions regarding the oral health of your SDS child. A second questionnaire is passed on by you to your family dentist who will take about 10 minutes to complete a brief form. Your dentist, with your consent, will forward a copy of your child's dental x-rays to Dr. Glogauer. Your participation and support are required at this important time as we work to improve treatment and the quality of lives of SDS patients.
